I read Skeleton Key by Stephen King. It is a collection of short horror stories. I really liked this but I won't recommend this to Jillian because she won't like it at all.Anonymous.
ReplyDeleteI read the book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. I think it's a good book because it's hilarious and realistic. It is from the perspective of a young Indian boy from the Rez. He is funny, witty, and very smart. If you enjoy a funny book that has NO boring parts read this book!
ReplyDeletegood book I agree fully
DeleteI read Skeleton Key by Stephen King. It is a collection of short horror stories. I really liked this but I won't recommend this to Jillian because she won't like it at all.Anonymous.
ReplyDeleteIn my time in challenge reading i have read a lot of books. One series I have been introduced to is the Harry Potter series. I started reading the Sorcerer Stone about a month ago. Then I read the Chamber of Secrets Then The Prisoner of Azkaban. I am currently reading The 4th book Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and it is very good. It is one of my favorite series and I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it because I know most people have. It is a fantastic story with Magic, an iconic hero (with a lightning scar) and many other reasons why
ReplyDeleteGuardians Of Ga'Hoole (4-7)
ReplyDeleteDuring Challenge Reading, I read the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh books in the Guardians Of Ga'Hoole series. It is about how a 'band' of owls go and save other owls from evil. They fight to save all the owl kingdoms from the evil at Saint Aggie's, and the Pure Ones. If you are reading this it probably sounds super dumb, but if you give this series a chance I am sure you will love it!

I've seen the movie to that and it was pretty good. It sounds kind of like the books, but I don't know if they're very similar since I haven't read the books.
DeleteI also read breaking dawn it was a very good fantasy book. I recommend this book to almost everyone that like fantasy books. It had many good things about it like romance fighting and fantasy.
ReplyDeleteI read Uglies while in this class and I thought it was really good. The characters were funny and the imagery the author created was detailed and really tied the book together. While I didn't necessarily like the ending, I really enjoyed it overall. The thought process behind it kid of amazed me because you'd have to have a really good imagination to come up with a book like that. -Kati A.
ReplyDeleteI know, I wonder what made her think of a society where pretty much everyone looks the same.

During challenge reading, I read the Hobbit. It was pretty good and adventurous, even though I don't really read or like adventure books. I also read the 10th Pretty Little Liars, and it was amazing and kind of creepy. I would recommend the Hobbit to people that enjoy reading classics, and I would recommend the PLL books to anyone that likes girly, mysterious books.
ReplyDeleteI also read the Hunger Games when I was in Challenge Reading as well as the second and third books in that series. The first one was really good, even though I don't usually read books like that. The second was pretty good, although I didn't like it as much as the first. The third one, to me personally, was not that good. It didn't go well with the first and second ones and the ending confused me.
ReplyDeleteI guess I need to reply since i read it too. THE FIRST BOOK WAS AMAZING. That is all I need to say.
DeleteI read fable haven and it is one of the best series i have ever read other than Percy Jackson and harry potter. It is one of the best fantasy books ever in my opinion and I have read lots.
ReplyDeleteI recently read the book Uglies. It was really good with plenty of conflict. The book is about a girl named Tally who wants more then anything to be pretty, but she has to wait three months until she is 16. Pretty means being surgically changed to how society wants her to. But when her friend Shay runs away to the smoke the questioned about her. She has to find her friend of be ugly for life. Special Circumstances gives her a heart pendant that will lead them to the smoke when activated. She finds Shay at the smoke. She lives there for awhile and doesn't want to betray it. But she accidentaly does anyway. Read the book to find out what happens. I really enjoyed this book I encourage anyone who enjoys dystopian novels to read it.

ReplyDeleteDuring challenge reading I read the books Catching Fire, Mockingjay, and The House of the Scorpion. They were all very very good books full of action and great writing in and out. The books are the same since they both take place in the future and are both in distopion socities.

ReplyDeleteThe Lottery By Shirley Jackson
I really liked this short story because it had a twist that I didn't expect. When I first started reading I was expecting it to be a good story about someone to win the lottery not a village stoning someone to death.
That story was very creepy, but I think the Rose for Emily one was weirder and scarier.
DeleteThis book freaked me out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DeleteI thought that it was a great story but it scared me.
doee and jiby
Hero
ReplyDeleteThis book by Mike Lupica is unlike any of his other books. This book will make you want to keep the pages turning.
Hero is a book about a boy who looses his way after a tragic accident hits his family. The bullies at school aren't helping much either. He will have to make a lot of decisions that will effect his life in some major ways. He will have to decide whether the people he thought were his friends are now his enemies, and if the people he thought were his enemies are now his friends.
I would definitely recommend this book. -Mikayla M.
I read a book called Graceling while I was in Challenge Reading and even though I don't normally read books with medieval fantasy as the genre, I still thought it was really good. The characters were funny but there was a lot of violence and fighting. The ending was sad though.
ReplyDeleteJillian wants to read that book (does that annoy you Sara???:-) She thinks it sounds really intriguing.
DeleteHello my peepith friends. I have really enjoyed this class and the people. I have enjoyed the books to. I am reading King of Shadows I would recommend anybody this book but if you don't enjoy theater, then you might not like it. I also read short stories such as Buck Fanshaws Funeral. That was quite funny. There is also The celebrated jumping frog of calveras county. Both where by Mark Twain.
ReplyDeletelove that book too peeepith friend! Yeah if you don't like theater you wont really enjoy it. I think Puck is awesome!!!

In this 6 week period I have discovered a great new book series. The Repairmen Jack series. The first book, The Tomb, is a weird mix between hard core reality and fantasy. I really enjoyed it and anyone interested should read this book. The second book is more down to Earth and is all reality no fantasy but just as action packed. These books have some mature content but if you think you can handle it READ THESE BOOKS!

ReplyDeleteThis is an ancient Greek play by a Greek philosopher named Sophocles. I wouldn't recommend this book if you don't understand dramas or old Greek language.
During Challenge Reading I read The Lightning Thief and The Sea of Monsters. I definitely recommend both of these books. They are full of Action, Adventure, and magic. I love these books because they refer to a lot of actual Greek myths. They have really strong characters that you can relate to. Cole B.

ReplyDeleteI am currently reading the House of The Scorpion. Right now i am at the part where Matt is at El Patron's birthday party and El Patron just started talking about how Mr. MacGraegor is going to get a surgery like El Patron. I have so far really enjoyed this book.
Hey People! Sorry I didn't respond yesterday it dint work which kind of annoyed me. So my favorite book this rotation is The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle. She is sent to her family via ship but is warned no to board. At first glance the captain is cordial and a gentleman, the crew obedient and loyal. But under the surface the captain is tyrannical and crazy, the crew planning a rebellion. Charlotte is caught up in the midst of this feud. When she tells on the crew all havoc brakes loose and 2 deaths occur. She is hated by all and then accused of MURDER!!!!!It is filled with adventure and a true confession of life at sea.The only thing I didn't like was at the beginning Charlotte is all prissy and a goody 2 shoes (ugh). Otherwise great read!
ReplyDeleteI also read Pretties the second book in the Uglies series. It's also very good but it is kind of boring in the beginning when she is a bubblehead and basically has no brain. It gets interesting when she starts defiying the lesions in her brain.

After Mrs. Ites read the last story in the lottery to us I was like wow that was disturbing. But I needed something to read so I decided to read the other short stories. I thought they were just weird and confusing. I'm not sure I would recommend it. That's all I have to say.
ReplyDeleteWhen I heard the Lottery for the first time I was astonished how the author gave hints to the ending but it still surprised me so much! I didn't catch the little clues but when I re read it every clicked. On the first day I heard the excerpt I went home and really thought about why the characters would do what they did and how personalities shined through the distopia. I would recommend the whole book, not just the excerpt.
ReplyDeleteI own the Hunger games! I love that series!
ReplyDeleteIn my time in here i have read the hunger games series. The first two books were amazing and so was the third but the ending was horrible. I think that katniss was not supposed to have this happy tied up ending and i do not think Paylor should have become president. - Paul E.
ReplyDeletehmmmmm i also like the looking glass wars series
ReplyDeleteThe book I read during my time in challenge reading was The Hunger Games. Its an amazing book. One reason I like it is because I'm a fan of dystopian novels. Another reason is it isn't necessarily fantasy because it takes place in future North America making it almost science fiction. It is an extremely emotional book so it's easy to connect to. While the main character, Katniss, suffers trials more vast than those of most people, she also has problems that occur everyday in the lives of teens. I highly suggest this book for anyone who likes action, adventure, and a little romance.

ReplyDeletei really liked harry potter the first time i read it but ive read better books
I read The Bar Code Tattoo. It was okay, but it was kinda boring and predictable at some points. But it kept you guessing at what was wrong with the bar code tattoo and why Kayla's mother says that the tattoo killed Kayla's dad

ReplyDeleteI read "Matched" by Ally Condie. Of the books I've read this year, this has definitely been added to the top of my list.
ReplyDeleteThe basic plot for this novel is a love triangle created by the Matchers of the Society. at Cassia's Matching ceremony, she is pleased to see her best friend, Xander's, face on the big screen. Then to her surprise, Ky Markham's face appears. Ky is an Aberration. Which means he is not allowed to be Matched. Through this unusual situation, Cassia discovers new secrets about the Society.
There's a sequel to this book, "Crossed", and I'm looking forward to reading it.
